We all remember the past few months. The winter was unusually long, marked by heavy grey skies and storms that brought more wind and rain to our coast than many of us can remember. From the windows of our shop in San Luis de Sabinillas, we watched the Mediterranean turn a wild, turbulent grey as the waves crashed against the shore. It was a season of staying indoors, protecting our gardens and waiting for the rain to finally stop.

But now, the air in San Luis de Sabinillas begins to lose its morning chill, the Mediterranean takes on a deeper shade of blue and suddenly, the world feels like it’s waking up from a long, quiet sleep.

If you step into the shop this week, you’ll see the first sign that the storms are behind us. It’s the Primrose season the official flower of April and our favorite pioneer of the season.

Its name comes from the Latin primus, meaning "first." After a winter of heavy water and salt spray, the Primrose is the first to push through the damp earth to tell us that the sun is finally back. In the language of flowers, it represents "first youth" and new beginnings. It doesn’t wait for the perfect, calm heat of the summer; it is brave enough to bloom while the ground is still waking up.

Simple Joy for a Mediterranean Home

For me, the Primrose is a storyteller of resilience. It reminds us that no matter how heavy the rain, the colors always return.

You don’t need an elaborate arrangement to celebrate this change. Place a few vibrant yellow or deep purple Primroses in a simple terracotta pot on your windowsill. Let them catch that famous Andalusian light.

As the ground dries and the sky clears, I invite you to embrace this "Primrose mindset." Let’s leave the storms behind and focus on the simple, colorful hope of Spring.

Whether you are walking the promenade or visiting us in the heart of Sabinillas, take a moment to breathe in that fresh April air. We have the brightest, freshest Primroses waiting to help you start your new season.

Happy April to all our neighbors. The sun is finally here! Come to Visit Us!
